Will Rohit Sharma open or not? Sunil Gavaskar on India's playing XI for Adelaide Test
The second match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy at Adelaide Oval will start this Friday where a buoyant line-up of the Indian Cricket Team is about to face Australia. India is leading this five-match series by 1-0 after the remarkable victory in Perth and expecting to augment their lead in the pink ball test.
With the coming of skipper Rohit Sharma who did not play the first test because of the birth of his second child, team India got a significant boost. In Perth, KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal opened the innings, scoring a record 201-run partnership together in the second innings, a crucial factor in the triumph of India.
With the rerun of Rohit Sharma, the Indian think tank is now facing difficulty over the batting order.
The former Indian captain and the legend ‘Sunil Gavaskar’ discussed on Star Sports what he thinks about the potential XI and in which position Rohit Sharma should bat.
Gavaskar stated, ‘Rohit opens the batting. Short square boundaries are suitable for his kind of batting’. ‘Rahul replace Jurel’s position at no.6, and Shubman Gill comes in place of Devdutt Padikkal at no.3. That would be my XI’.
Gavaskar also observed the bowling combination, recommending changes depending on Adelaide’s pitch conditions. ‘I would maybe look at the place of Washington Sundar. Since it’s a pink ball game, Nitish Reddy has to stay; he will be the fourth seamer. Whether you should bring in Jadeja or Ashwin, they have to take this call after going and seeing the pitch.
Gavaskar dispelled any apprehensions while asked about concerns over the form of Rohit Sharma. ‘No, not at all. Somebody of his calibre and class- it does not matter at all. As he comes in, he gets a hundred just like that. No worries.
With Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma possibly making a return, the playing XI of India in Adelaide will be observed closely as they try to solidify their lead in the series. The pink ball game is going to be an enthralling contest under the lights at the Adelaide Oval.
